UCI World Cup Mountain Bike´s provisional route
UCI World Cup MTB´s route, which will take place on 17th March 2007, is still provisional. We pay attention to Beat Wabel´s report to value it.
The UCI World Cup Mountain Bike will take place in Gran Canaria on 17th March 2007. The starting line will be from the village Sioux City, in El Cañón del Águila. From here, the runners will take the motorway GC-500 to arrive at the Hotel Gloria Palace´s (San Agustín) access roundabout. From its car park begins a drop-sloped route, which will give rise to the bunch through Los Altos de San Agustín, where you can admire the beautiful view of Las Dunas de Maspalomas.

The first part of the route ends in a descent of an incline in El Cañón del Águila. The goal is to ride over the land with short steep slopes, which skirts Mesa del Macho and La Presa de la Monta through Sioux City.
Later the route continues parallel to the motorway GC-1 to arrive at El Barranco de la Cebollera. From there the cyclists will have to confront a severe and technical slope to El Alto de la Ventocilla, which is a fenced area. It denotes itself to another period, in which the agriculture was the main sustenance for the inhabitants of this area.
The descent will be daring because of its incline and its ground, which is only appropriate for the most outstanding mountain bikers. Inevitabely, some cyclists may have to do part of the route on foot with the bicycle on shoulder.
After the descent, the itinerary consists of skirting El Caserío de la Florida to reach Aldea Blanca. The participants will then have access to its pitch in order to begin a long and constant slope up to El Gallego. Then the route will continue to Las Casas de los Sitios de Abaj and through the same hillsides of Macizo de Amurga. El Valle de Tirajana will always be rembered by the runners. At the same time, they will discern the Island´s peaks and its Pico de las Nieves.
The track, which goes down from Los Sitios, finishes next to the retaining wall of La Presa de Tirajana, which will climb through La Sorrueda to arrive to La Fortaleza de Ansite. The latter was the last refuge of the canary natives until the final conquest, and incorporation into its crown, by Castile´s Kingdom in 1483.
Once finished the descent from La Fortaleza to the precipice´s bottom, the participants will traverse a rocky ground to access the roundabout of Aldea Blanca, where they will cross its greenhouse area.
From Aldea Blanca to the finishing line (Sioux City), the route is the same as the route to this village. Yet again, the cyclists will have to confront the fearsome slope and descent to El Alto de la Ventocilla. By now, the groups will probably be smaller and many cyclists will go around alone.
The arrival to the finishing line is spectacular, both for the runners and the spectators. One one hand, the cyclists’ arrival will be a technical descent with a complete view of Sioux City, whereas the latter will be able to see the arrival entirely in its last kilometre from the amphitheatre’s open air stands of “the Far West village”.
