
The best bikers in the world will be at the MTB World Cup Marathon in Gran Canaria
Gewiss – Bianchi Official Team has confirmed Pia Sundstedt and Thomas Dietsch´s participation (Champion and runner-up of the competition in 2006 respectively).
The mountain biking favourites for the Mountain Bike World Cup Marathon Gran Canaria are gradually confirming their participation in this event, which will take place on 17th March in Gran Canaria and opens the UCI´s calendar for mountainbike racing in 2007. One of the leading teams of the cycling world, the Gweiss - Bianchi, have already confirmed that its two leading bikers in the Marathon discipline will be in Gran Canaria to contest this 90 km - event.
In the female event we have Pia Sundstedt from Finland, who finished the year 2006, with one of the best seasons of her sports career. Sundstedt was crowned Finnish National Marathon Champion 2006, and was European Marathon Champion in 2005, and has been 5th in the World Championships 2005 and 2006, added to this the Finn also competes in the Cross-Country Skiing Marathon.
And in the male race, the Frenchman Thomas Dietsch will be one of the favourites. At 33 years of age, Dietsch has an impressive list of victories. It is worth highlighting his palmares as European Champion in the Mountain Bike Marathon (2003 and 2004) as well as several top 5 finishes.
